My internet business has a lot in common with your internet business. We are both looking for a substantial return on investment, we want multiple streams of income, a fully automated rinse and repeat system.
Mistakes to avoid with your internet business.
1. Presentation - Most people will not waste their time on an amateur-looking website. At the same time do not go crazy with graphics, videos, fonts and images. This usually does more harm than good. Imagine a scenario where you have a beautiful, flashy-looking site that you've put a tremendous amount of work into.
You upload it to your hosting service, build incoming links, write promotional articles and after a few months, still no activity. Usually, the problem is that your site is taking ages to load and, trust me, nobody is going to sit around for five minutes waiting for that to happen. It seems to be working fine on your end because the main files for the site are saved on your computers cache. Keep it simple. Find out what other people ranking high in your niche are doing and go on from there. Do not copy them as per definition of the word or you will never see results. Illustrate as best as you can how customers will benefit from using your product or services. Remember, as soon as someone is on your site, you have about ten seconds to get them interested. Get to the point, provide information relevant to your business. Avoid the merry-go-round approach at all costs, unless you're expecting to get paid in monopoly money.
2. Opt-in Pages and Autoresponders - The money is in the list, but not every list makes money. Do not become obsessed with getting people to opt-in to your autoresponder. The opt-in form on your website should be placed to the side or at the bottom of your page. Be sure to provide enough information about your product or services before squeezing your prospects to give up their contact details. A lot of internet marketing business sites have their opt-in form appearing even before you've read what the site is all about. The thumb rule here is that if your business is worth anything, your potential clients will opt-in. Don't scare them away unnecessarily.
3. Misspellings - How many times have you been turned off by an article or a sales page because of the amount of misspellings or grammatical errors? Some online marketers use misspellings intentionally, in fact this is how some people get most of their natural traffic. Effective as this may be, it also hurts your credibility with those that are able to spell. A grammatical error in a paragraph is like moving on a bumpy road, give your customers a smooth ride. Don't go out of your way to hurt your business. If you know that you have problems with english grammar, use a spell-check tool online or a dictionary. It's free.
4. Advertisements - Decide very carefully on whether or not you're going to run ads on your site. Placement is everything. More often than not, internet marketers will have ads running on their sites. Ads are good but do not let them interfere with the main service you're providing. Again, credibility. Imagine having a service like Aweber optimized for google adsense, do you honestly think they would have as many clients? The correct answer here would be 'no'.
5. Buying Leads - Usually a big mistake. The only leads that are reliable are the ones you generate on your own. Give your readers relevant information and some incentive and this alone will arouse their interest to learn more about your business.
6. One Business Opportunity At A Time - A lot of newbies coming online to try and make money fail on their first attempt only because they buy into the idea of achieving overnight success. Ambitious and desperate, they fall victim to powerful and hypnotic sales letters, crafted only for one purpose, to make them pull out their credit card as fast as possible and click on the checkout button. Most of the sales letters you read, be it on or offline, are written by experts (at a staggering cost) and well worth every penny.
They are designed to captivate, mesmerize and conquer. They are effective, and generate millions of dollars every single day. There's a big difference between being scammed and not having a clue of what's going on. Do not hop around from one online business opportunity to the next without giving any of the opportunities a chance. First of all, know what you're looking for beforehand, or the well written sales page you come across will make the decision for you. The first 5 cents that you make from your internet business is a true indication that you're making money online. Work at it and make 10 cents. Implement more marketing strategies and before you know it you'll have the kind of results you never thought possible.
A final point to remember is that being dishonest with your customers will only accomplish one thing; a very short life-span for your business.
To a healthy, sunny and prosperous new year,
